Some corn maze designers go as far as using GPS to get their design just right, but Weakland Farms does it without technology.

New Hampshire motorcyclist killed in multi-vehicle crash on I-80 near Penfield

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Clearfield County have released more information about Wednesday's fatal crash on Interstate 80 westbound in Union Township. Troopers say 59-year-old Amy Freeman, of Salem, NH, was killed when her motorcycle was struck by a tractor-trailer that had collided with another tractor-trailer that had become disabled. Investigators say tractor-trailer #1 was traveling a short distance behind the second tractor-trailer, in the left lane, when the driver noticed that the vehicle had become disabled, from a mechanical issue, and was attempting to exit onto the side of the roadway.

One man dead after driving through guide rail in Westmoreland County

One man is dead after driving through a guide rail and then going down an embankment in Rostraver Township Friday morning, state police said. According to a press release, Joseph Troyer, 35, was traveling in the left lane east on I-70 west of State Route 51 around 7:45 a.m. State police said Troyer turned across the right lane of travel and drove through a guide rail. The press release states that Troyer then drove down a steep embankment and struck a tree on the passenger side, causing the vehicle to flip over on its roof.

Tyrone Ace Hardware collecting donations for Central PA Humane Society

Tyrone, PA (WJAC) — Tyrone Ace Hardware is continuing its annual tradition of helping the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. Staff and family members have set up a handmade model train display, depicting our region's storied railroad history and local landmarks, and are encouraging customers to bring in donations to benefit the humane society near Altoona. They are accepting pet food, cleaning supplies, and more. Staff members say Tyrone sticks together and helps others, especially in times of tragedy as Tyrone has seen over the past months.

2 people killed in Elk County crash

FOX TOWNSHIP – Two people were killed in a one-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Elk County. Travis Kline, 42, of Kersey, and Jessica Martini, 34, of St. Marys, were pronounced dead at the scene. State police in Ridgway said the crash occurred at 1:34 a.m. when Martini’s vehicle, a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, failed to negotiate a left-hand curve on Brandy Camp Road. The car left the road, struck a sign and then a tree.

Bedford chef creates giant Gingerbread Village at Omni Bedford Springs Resort

Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — A massive gingerbread village just inside the Omni Bedford Springs Resort isn't meant for eating, just enjoying. The resort's pastry chef was challenged to outdo the house he made last year, and he did just that with a Christmas wonderland. The full display is 34 feet wide and 12 feet tall. Forty-five students at the Bedford County Technical Center built the framework. He and his staff then went to work adding the 6,800 bricks made from 240 pounds of gingerbread dough, 60 pounds of royal icing, 40 pounds of marshmallow, 360 chocolate bars, 100 York peppermint patties and 1,400 peppermints.

Canadian wildfires impacting air quality in Pennsylvania

Clearfield, PA — Dr. Mahrdad Ghaffari, head of Pulmonology at UPMC Altoona, said the burning wildfires in Canada are becoming a hazard to our air quality. "These are very fine particles, carbon monoxide, nitrogen that come to our area and that can be dangerous for people who already have lung diseases," he said. He said this can impact those with respiratory issues, like asthma COPD or any heart condition, " You may feel like your breathing isn't good, you feel like you're in the center of a big city and the air isn't as good when you're breathing.
