OSHA fines Centre County food plant for safety, health violations

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A Centre County food processing plant has been "heavily fined" by the federal Department of Labor. The Hanover Foods Corporation has a processing plant in Centre Hall and last year, the labor department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration opened an investigation there and has now cited the company with 70 violations. OSHA claims the plant was in violation of dozens of safety and health hazard regulations.

PA man gets 15 to 30 years in shooting that wounded police chief

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 15 to 30 years in prison in a 2021 shooting that wounded a suburban Philadelphia borough police chief. Colin Petroziello, 26, of Yardley pleaded no contest last fall in Bucks County Court to attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer, attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges. In a no contest plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence for conviction.

Pirates acquire former top draft pick in trade with Giants

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired former top draft pick Joey Bart in a trade with the San Francisco Giants. Bart was selected second overall by the Giants in the 2018 MLB draft. He played in 162 games, over four seasons, with the Giants, tallying 11 home runs, 16 doubles and 38 RBIs. Bart was designated for assignment by San Francisco on March 31st. The Giants will receive right-hander Austin Strickland in the trade.

Woman charged as accomplice in Windber shooting

WINDBER -- Windber police filed charges against Heather Singer on Thursday for conspiracy in a case that involves her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Cortland Michalides. It was just a few weeks ago Michalides was taken into custody for a shooting that happened in the 700 block of Graham Avenue in Windber. According to the criminal complaint, Michalides told police Singer hired him as a hit man but shot the wrong person The 32-year-old Singer is facing multiple conspiracy charges including criminal homicide and aggravated assault.

8th graders create 3D printed prosthetic leg for one-legged chicken

HUGHESVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) — A one-legged chicken is back on two feet thanks to a group of Lycoming County eighth grade students. Students from East Lycoming School District took action to help a nearly year old chicken, named Blue, walk again. CNN affiliate WNEP says Blue was severely hurt after a raccoon broke into a chicken coop outside Briannah Miller's home near Montoursville. Several chickens died, and Blue lost her leg.

Altoona Five Guys employee stabbed coworker in the head with pen, police say

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — A Five Guys employee has been charged after stabbing his coworker who told him he wasn’t working hard enough, Altoona police say. According to the Altoona Police Department, 51-year-old Anthony Towles, of Tyrone, is facing charges related to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and making terroristic threats. Police say they were called Sunday to the Five Guys located in the 3400 block of Pleasant Valley Boulevard for reports of a stabbing.

Myers Elementary school welcomes new adaptive swing for special needs students

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A special adaptive swing is being brought into Myers Elementary school in Bellwood for children with special needs. The previous swing needed some repairs, so the new swing is an upgrade. The new swing at the elementary school was made possible through fundraising by the "Smiles for Miles Foundation." One teacher at the school said the adaptive swing gives students the opportunity to enjoy time on the playground.
