PITTSBURGH (AP) — Franco Harris, the Hall of Fame running back whose heads-up thinking authored “The Immaculate Reception,” considered the most iconic play in NFL history, has died. He was 72.
Harris' son Dok told The Associated Press his father passed away overnight. No cause of death was given. His death comes two days before the 50th anniversary of the play that provided the jolt that helped transform the Steelers from also-rans into the NFL's elite and three days before Pittsburgh is scheduled to retire his No.
Hershey being sued after 'heavy metals' were allegedly found in dark chocolate
DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Chocolate-maker Hershey is being sued over heavy metals in its dark chocolate bars.
A proposed class action lawsuit alleges The Hershey Co.y failed to disclose that there's lead and cadmium in some of its dark chocolates, including Lily’s brand which is owned by Hershey.
The suit comes weeks after a Consumer Reportsprobe revealed the dangerous metals in Hershey, Lindt, and Ghirardelli chocolates, as well as ones made by the likes of Trader Joe's, Beyond Good and Dove.

Husband and wife charged with kidnapping after Ferndale hostage situation
JOHNSTOWN, PA. (WJAC) — Three people are facing charges stemming from what police call a hostage situation in Ferndale last week, according to Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan.
This all began when Ferndale and other local police departments surrounded a home on Summit Avenue Thursday morning after a woman inside called 911.
Callihan told 6 News last week that during the incident, a man and a woman, who were being held against their will, escaped the home from a second story window into police protection.
Stoystown celebrates 250th anniversary
SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A kick-off event was held Thursday night in Somerset County to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Stoystown.
The celebrations took place at the Stoystown Historical Society.
State representatives Carl Metzgar and Pat Stefano were in attendance to highlight the city's history.
Some events that are planned for this year in Stoystown are a basket party at the American Legion on April 28th and the town's annual Memorial Day parade at the historical society.
Tanneryville man remembers devastation from 1977 Johnstown Flood
WEST TAYLOR TOWNSHIP -- There are countless stories to tell from the 1977 flood, which happened 40 years ago this week. And one area hit the hardest was Tanneryville.
Out of the 85 people who died in the flood, nearly half lived in Tanneryville.
The memories of that event are still fresh in the mind of Ed Cernic Sr.
"I had a gas station here at one time,” Cernic said. “And when the floodwaters hit, it wiped out my doors, all the vehicles and everything in, like the motorcycles.
Woman charged with vandalism of Lion Shrine
University Park, Pa. (WJAC) – A New Jersey woman is charged with damaging the iconic Penn State statue in May, court documents said.
University police charge 23-year-old Julia Cipparulo of Hillsborough, N.J. with felony counts of institutional vandalism, criminal mischief and other theft charges.
Police said surveillance video from multiple cameras around campus showed a woman matching Cipparulo’s physical features moving and hiding in bushes. They said she was seen at Old Main doors at 4:50 a.
47 charged in bust of 'major' meth, cocaine pipeline from California to western PA: Feds
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Six separate indictments were handed down from federal authorities Tuesday in connection to a nationwide drug trafficking ring.
Forty-seven individuals were named in six separate indictments, citing drug trafficking from California all the way to western Pennsylvania including Jefferson and Clearfield counties.
In these indictments, the defendants were charged with narcotics trafficking, money laundering and firearms violations.
Investigators say these defendants operated across the country distributing drugs locally in Clearfield, Jefferson and Allegheny counties.
Annual Punkin' Chunkin' Festival sees in-person return
HOWARD, Pa. (WJAC) — Saturday, the Howard Fire Company Punpkin' Chunkin' Festival saw folks gather to watch some gourds get chucked over the lake at Bald Eagle State Park, to help fundraise for the local fire department.
Despite the rain, folks at the Punkin' Chunkin' Festival had a sunny attitude, especially after last year's virtual offering.
Like any fall festival, there are stands upon stands of carnival food, craft items, and even hay rides.
