PA gun shop owner says customers are flocking in from out-of-state as sales surge

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WJAC) — With all of the unrest in the country right now, one local businessowner says he's seeing an increase in sales. The owner of Hunters Warehouse in Bellefonte, Thomas Engle, says he has seen a dramatic increase in people from both in and out of state purchasing guns and ammunition. Supplies have been hard to get for the past year and he doesn't really know why. Various types of firearms are being sold such as pistols and hunting rifles.

Rue21 closing all stores nationwide after bankruptcy filing

Rue21 is closing its doors for the last time after filing for bankruptcy, according to Reuters. This isn't the first time the apparel company has filed for bankruptcy; the business also filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and 2017. Now, after decades of business, the company is $194.4 million in debt, Reuters reports, and its 4,900 employees will be out of jobs. All the stores in the country will be closing. Reuters reports that 540 stores are currently in operation.

Suspects burglarize Windber Country Club; steal cash from Skill, payout machines

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Take a look at this! Surveillance video from inside the Windber Country Club shows two suspects burglarizing the establishment overnight. Adams Township Police say the suspects broke in just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning and targeted four Games of Skill machines, as well as the payout machine. Video shows the suspects physically removing the payout machine. Police say the machine was later found in the woods nearby, emptied of all the cash.

'It's because of the porn:' Cambria Co. man viewed dozens of images of child porn, AG says

UPDATE | CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. — Authorities with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General say a Cambria County man is behind bars following a months-long child porn investigation. Officials say in February, agents received a CyberTip that multiple images of suspected child pornography had reportedly been viewed at a Johnstown area address. Investigators say the IP address was linked to a residence along the 100 block of Boulder Drive, where 79-year-old Richard Hirsch reportedly resided.

Coaster that derailed in Daytona was once a DelGrossos attraction

DAYTONA BEACH -- A Florida roller coaster that recently derailed from its tracks, injuring two people, was a longtime attraction at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park in Blair County. Florida authorities say a car on the steel roller coaster, now called the "Sand Blaster,” suddenly derailed last week, sending two riders plunging more than 30 feet to the ground and another rider desperately holding on to a car still. According to The Associated Press, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said the ride was found in compliance with state law when it was inspected earlier that day, but state records show it had a history of maintenance problems.

Ohio catholic high school teacher arrested for sexual battery

HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio (WTOV) — The Harrison County Sheriff's Office in Ohio arrested a Steubenville Catholic Central High School teacher in Cadiz on Friday morning. Prosecutor Lauren Knight says 21-year-old Corissa McCalister is charged with two counts of sexual battery. McCalister is in jail on $100,000 bond. McCalister, also a cross country coach and assistant track coach, has been placed on administrative leave by the school, according to Principal Thomas Costello.

Penn State suspends fraternity through Summer 2024 due to hazing allegations

A Penn State fraternity has been suspended through the summer of 2024 for allegations of misconduct related to hazing, university officials announced Friday. Penn State’s Office of Student Conduct launched a joint investigation into the Alpha Psi Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity after receiving “allegations of hazing during the new member education process, as well as allegations involving furnishing alcohol to students under the age of 21 and violations of University regulations regarding their recruitment practices.

(AP) — A woman who was living inside a sign on the roof of a Michigan grocery store told police it was an “old safe spot” known to her family, though she didn't explain why she chose to stay there for a year, according to video of the encounter. The 34-year-old woman, whose name hasn't been released, was very concerned about her possessions as police officers said she would have to immediately leave an attic-like space inside the Family Fare sign in Midland, 130 miles (209 kilometers) north of Detroit.

Woman threatened local magistrate hundreds of times, police say

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Colorado woman is behind bars after she reportedly threatened a local magistrate, as well as her former employer, hundreds of times over a period of several weeks. Jackson Township police say the investigation began in mid-March after they learned that a woman, later identified as 46-year-old Sarah Byrne, had been repeatedly harassing staff members at the office of Magisterial District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi.

Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway kicks off 2020 racing season

BEDFORD — The second time is the charm for the Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway. Track officials planned for opening night of the 2020 season on Friday, June 5. But, rain made the track unusable. So, Sunday, June 7 served up a nice night for the start of the 2020 campaign. The track hosted four classes of racing: Late Models, Late Model Sportsman, Semi Lates and Modifieds. “We’ve been off for so long,” said Jarrod Clapper, Bedford Speedway’s multimedia director.
