Somerset County family regains access to clean water thanks to nonprofit & local company

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A Somerset County family will soon have access to clean water, after going months without it, thanks to the help of some local companies and a nonprofit whose goal is to provide clean water access across the globe. Officials say in November, the Godin family's water well stopped producing enough water due to drought conditions last summer. The well was also caving in, forcing the Stoystown family of seven to drive about 20 minutes to get water for bathing their children and flushing their toilets.

Blair Co. elementary school dedicates garden in memory of four former students

BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — Family, friends and community members of four former Ebner Elementary School students dedicated a garden in their memory Friday evening. The former students who were honored include Kea Barnes, Devon Pfirsching, Civario Ciavarella and Kaylee Kruise. Friday’s event celebrated the dedication of the Mowrie A. Ebner Memorial Garden, which was funded by the 2019 and 2020 5th and 6th grade classes. Ebner principal Melissa Douglas says this school district has encountered a lot if loss within the past few years, and it hasn't been easy on the students.

Cambria County Commissioners approve wage increases for new C.Y.S hires

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — After months of pushing for higher wages, starting pay is increasing for newly hired Children and Youth Service workers in Cambria county. All three of the Cambria county Commissioners voted in favor of raising starting wages Thursday morning, in hopes it will attract more workers. DEP fines Advanced Disposal $600K for violations that led to worker's landfill death

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced Friday that Advanced Disposal Services has agreed to a $600,000 civil penalty in relation to a waste slope failure that resulted in the death of its employee at the Greentree Landfill in Kersey, Elk County. On Feb. 8, officials said a slope failure occurred at the Greentree Landfill, causing an estimated 15.5 acres of solid waste to shift and an estimated five acres of solid waste to slide off the lined disposal area.

Shooting suspect chased down by neighbor in Kentucky, police say

ALEXANDRIA, Ky. (WKRC) — A man was shot in the head three times at his home in Kentucky and his neighbor tracked down the suspected shooter, according to authorities. Police said the man was shot in his driveway on Friday at 8 p.m. His wife heard the gunshots and looked out the window to see a white pickup truck with "CWL" on the side. She called for help. A neighbor said he heard the shots and screaming.

Steelers fan to be reunited with 'sentimental' Terrible Towel that was lost

According to the post, the towel was picked up by another fan, who reportedly lives in Ohio. Koester says the fan messaged her to let her know that they were in possession of the towel and that they will ship it back to her.

Hummingbirds make return to Pennsylvania

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — For the first time this year, hummingbirds have been spotted in Pennsylvania. According to Hummingbirdcentral.com, the first Pennsylvania sighting was in Cambria County Monday. A sighting notification from Cresson reads: “Surprised to see our first 2 Ruby-throated hummingbirds looking for our feeders, which weren’t out yet. Now they are!” Most hummingbirds spend the winter in Central America or Mexico where it’s much warmer the site says.
