North Carolina man and bear give each other a scare
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A Ring camera captured the moment an Asheville man and a bear came face to face, giving each other a scare.
People who've lived in western North Carolina for a while are typically used to coexisting with black bears. However, few get as close of an encounter as David Oppenheimer.
At the end of the day on Tuesday, April 11, Oppenheimer said he was relaxing in a chair in his carport when he heard his Ring camera chime.
Online petition aims to prevent suicide on McNally Bridge
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP -- The McNally Bridge carries Route 219 over the Stonycreek River and has unfortunately been a spot where people have gone to commit suicide.
An online petition was started this week to urge PennDOT and other public officials to do something to help change that.
More than 4,000 people have signed the petition, trying to enact change and end the stigma surrounding suicide.
The McNally Bridge stands about 190 feet tall.
Penn State celebrates one-of-a-kind historic program
Penn State Altoona celebrated a historic program in Blair County, with the college officially commemorating an agreement with the Railroader’s Memorial Museum in Altoona that will enhance their rail transportation engineering bachelor’s program.
Officials said the program is the only one of its kind in the entire nation, and that 100% of students in the program were able to get jobs in the industry within a month of graduating.
Ron Darbeau, Penn State Altoona Chancellor and Dean, said, “Penn State Altoona is looking to expand the RTE program, we’re trying to make this a destination spot of any rail enthusiasts, to be a great place to bring in K-12 students, and to move more folks into the rail industry which remains the backbone of the transportation industry in the country.
Pirates trade Musgrove to San Diego, receive 5 prospects in three-way deal
Pittsburgh, Pa (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Pirates traded right-hander Joe Musgrove to the San Diego Padres on Monday night as part of a three-way deal, according to a team release.
In return, the Pirates netted four top prospects from the Padres, as well as catcher/outfield prospect Endy Rodriguez from the New York Mets.
Musgrove, who is a native of San Diego, said he is excited to be returning to his hometown.
Suspected shoplifter made 4 trips into store in 3 days and was arrested twice
WILDWOOD, Fla. (TND) — A police officer got called to a store “in reference to a retail theft” but after that, the case was anything but routine.
This happened at a Lowe's home improvement store in Florida. The officer arrived last Monday, May 6, but the theft happened two weeks before that, on April 22.
And that alleged theft may not have been the suspect’s last.
The store’s asset protection manager had done much of the work.

DEP fines gas company $1.1M for 2022 Cambria County leak
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a $1.1 million fine against Equitrans gas company for violations related to the 2022 gas leak at their storage facility in Cambria County.
In early November of 2022, many residents in Jackson Township heard what sounded like a large jet engine nearby.
Officials say that sound was determined to be the venting of natural gas at the Rager Mountain storage site owned and operated by Equitrans Midstream.
Former Shondells create new group called 'The Crystal Blue Band'
PENFIELD - A popular rock and roll group from the late 1960s is making their way back into the limelight. Three original members from Tommy James and the Shondells have gotten back together as The Crystal Blue Band.
One member, Ron Rosman, was born and raised in Penfield, Clearfield County.
Rosman lived there until he was 14 years old. It was during his college years at St. Vincent College in Latrobe when he was discovered by Tommy James.
Search warrants reveal details in teen double homicide investigation in New Philadelphia
NEW PHILADELPHIA, SCHUYLKILL CO. (WOLF) — Seven search warrants have shed light on details of the ongoing investigation into the homicide of two teenagers in New Philadelphia.
According to search warrants from the office of Magisterial District Judge Dave Plachko, Pennsylvania State Police responded on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, around 11:50 p.m. to Ferndale Road in New Philadelphia for a report about a man knocking on the front door of a home asking the residents inside for help.
