Former Penn State Lady Lion Kathy Drysdale passes away following battle with cancer
University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State University officials announced that former Lady Lion Kathy Drysdale passed away Friday at the age of 53.
Drysdale was a star basketball player during her time at Penn State and then spent 13 years as a member of the university's athletics department.
She is a member of the Lady Lions' 1,000 point club and helped Penn State become the first women's team, from the Northeast, to be ranked No.
Local doctor urges residents to keep up with health, as COVID pushes routines aside
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — It was this month last year when health concerns started revolving around COVID-19.
That means, in many cases, those routine appointments, screenings, and surgeries took a back seat.
Dr. Travis Rearick, a family physician with East Hills Primary Care, said as more appointments are delayed and cancelled, more problems could go undetected.
"Some cancers don't quite wait for COVID to be over," he said.
"I remember calling every single person -- and having our staff call every single person -- on the schedule to see if we could postpone their visit one month or two months.
Market Basket sells ownership of store after 50 years
JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — The owners of the local grocery store Market Basket announced that they have sold the store after 50 years of service.
"After careful consideration, we have decided to sell the family business to another Johnstown family, one with considerable experience in the grocery business.," the post states.
Ownership of the longtime business has been sold to McAneny Brothers, a local wholesale company located in Ebensburg, who will take over on March 1.
Steelers trade quarteback Josh Dobbs to Jaguars for 5th-round draft pick
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired quarterback Josh Dobbs in a trade with Pittsburgh, giving them a backup while Nick Foles recovers from a broken collarbone.
The Jaguars gave up a fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft for Dobbs, who was in his third season with the Steelers. He was a fourth-round pick in 2017.
He has played in five career NFL games, completing 6 of 12 passes for 43 yards and an interception.
Trooper shot and injured during encounter near Lewistown barracks
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Former Pennsylvania governor and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge says "it's great to be alive" this Thanksgiving.
Ridge issued a statement Wednesday from the hospital in Austin, Texas, where he's recovering from a heart attack.
He says he's thankful for the "outpouring of love and concern" after his health emergency.
He says he's filled with gratitude, even though his doctors won't let him touch turkey and mashed potatoes.
Johnstown man warns others after losing wife in swimming pool accident
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Johnstown resident Ron Esposito is using his wife's death to warn others about the dangers of pools, and those dangers include more than drownings.
After three children, 11 grandchildren and almost 49 years of marriage, Ron watched his wife, Jean, die as their above-ground swimming pool collapsed.
"That's where she was at when I saw her, over beside those rugs," Esposito said.
On May 30, Kathleen Esposito, who was known to her friends and family as Jean, was killed while trying to drain excess water out of her above-ground pool.

Oklahoma school district responds after video shows students licking toes for fundraiser
EDMOND, OKLA. (KOKH) — A school district in Oklahoma is doing damage control after a video sent to KOKH showed young students licking other people's toes as part of a fundraising event. "It was surprising," an anonymous student told KOKH. "I didn't think they were going to do all that. I was just shocked. I didn't really have like a feeling. I was kind of disgusted, and then kind of glad I wasn't over there.
SCI Smithfield reports first COVID-19 inmate death
HUNTINGDON CO, Pa (WJAC) — According to a release from the Department of Corrections, SCI Smithfield officials have reported the prison's first COVID-19 death among inmates.
Authorities say the inmate, whose name will not be released, was a 77-year-old male with underlying health conditions.
Officials say he had been transferred to a hospital in Clearfield County to receive care.
Prison officials say he had been incarcerated at SCI Smithfield since Oct.
