Suspect in Aniah Blanchard disappearance arrested, faces kidnapping charges

The manhunt for a man wanted in connection with the disappearance of Alabama student Aniah Blanchard was arrested Friday night in Florida. U.S. Marshals in Montgomery, Alabama called the U.S. Marshals after receiving a tip that 30-year-old Ibraheem Yazeed was possibly in Escambia County. Auburn Police Department identified Yazeed as a suspect and issued a first-degree kidnapping warrant Thursday. They identified him as dangerous and possibly armed. U.S. Marshals told us they converged on the area and spotted him wearing all black, and called the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

CVS, Stop & Shop, Rite Aid to distribute free N95 masks

UNDATED (WJAR) — The federal government is handing out hundreds of millions of N95 masks for free. The masks will come from the Strategic National Stockpile, which has more than 750 million on hand. It will be the largest distribution of free masks by the federal government since the start of the global pandemic. There will be a limit of three N95 masks per person. According to the White House, 400 million will be made available at locations that have partnered with the federal government's COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Former PA Governor aide accused of sexual harassment prior to resignation

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A senior adviser to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro who abruptly resigned this week had been accused earlier this year of sexual harassment by a coworker who said his behavior forced her to quit her job in the governor's office. Mike Vereb, who served as Shapiro's secretary of legislative affairs until his resignation on Wednesday, was accused in the woman's complaint to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission of subjecting her to lewd, misogynistic and unwanted sexual advances during her brief stint working in the governor's administration.

Johnstown group offers free prom dresses for those in need

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Cinderella Project has been helping girls dress to impress for prom for over a decade. Saturday they'll be having their 13th annual try on day at the YWCA in Johnstown, and it's all for free. Dresses aren't the only thing up for grabs, shoes and accessories will also be available. Everything is first come first-served, but there's no shortage of dresses, which are donated year-round.

Local leaders announce plans to create UPJ branch center in downtown Johnstown

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Some major news for downtown Johnstown. Community leaders and officials with the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown announcing plans to bring a new center to downtown. University President Jem Spectar says the center would be located right on Main Street. Leaders are working to bring some of UPJ's programming there, like advanced manufacturing and robotics, while also training students for the semi-conductor industry, “We believe that, by being present downtown, people will develop the skills they need and be able to compete even more.

Walgreens joins big-box price cuts with over 1,300 items discounted this summer

Walgreens announced Wednesday it would be slashing prices on over 1,300 products as part of their "Summer of Savings." The company joined several big-box retailers taking the same initiative to try and boost sales amid increasing inflation. Warrant issued for suspect in Indiana Borough homicide, female in custody

UPDATE:INDIANA, Pa (WJAC) — Police in Indiana Borough have issued an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Isaiah Moore, of Philadelphia, in connection to the shooting death of a 20-year-old male early Saturday morning. Indiana County coroner Jerry Overman identified the victim as Jaedyn Wright, of Pittsburgh. Investigators say Wright was shot in a parking lot, near Carriage House Apartments, around 4 a.m. Saturday. Police identified two of the four suspects in the shooting as Moore and and 17-year-old Isabella Edmonds.

The Meyersdale area celebrated their 77th annual Maple Festival, kicking off weekend festivities with a parade and more. Officials say the maple festival brings together volunteers, local businesses, and community members each year. 18 face charges in death of Penn State fraternity pledge

BELLEFONTE -– Eighteen fraternity brothers are facing charges in the death of Beta Theta Pi fraternity pledge Timothy Piazza, eight of them manslaughter charges. Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller announced the charges recommended by a grand jury during a news conference Friday at the Centre County Courthouse. Brendan Young, Daniel Casey, Jonah Neuman, Nick Kubera, Michael Bonatucci, Gary Dibileo, Luke Visser and Joe Sala face involuntary manslaughter charges, Parks Miller said.

Altoona man captured in Louisiana on child sex crime warrant now jailed in Blair County

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — An Altoona man who was arrested last month in Louisiana on child sex-crime charges was arraigned Wednesday in Blair County. Albert “AJ” Kuklo III was arrested on April 11th by the US Marshals in the New Orleans area. Police say Kuklo is accused of sexually assaulting multiple young girls, over several years, in Altoona and Claysburg. Court records show that Kuklo is charged with more than 120 offenses, including several felonies for child rape and sexual assault.
