The Logan Township Police Department has released more information regarding an incident in Altoona Saturday.

According to a press release, the Logan Township Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of Rosehill Drive for a report of a suicidal male.

Police said that the male, identified as Tershar Miller, 28, displayed a handgun and made several comments indicating that he wanted to die and made threats of a shootout with police.

The press release states that the Altoona Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police were called in to assist with the incident.

According to police, law enforcement officers set up a perimeter around the residence and evacuated nearby homes before engaging in an eight-hour standoff.

The press release states that police continued communicating with Miller in an attempt to gain compliance to surrender without incident.

Police said Miller continued to make threats of a shootout with police and pointed his gun in the direction of officers holding the perimeter.

According to the press release, Miller also attempted to ignite the residence by lighting a makeshift Molotov cocktail and throwing it at the home, which failed.

The press release states that Miller eventually surrendered and was transported to UPMC Altoona Hospital for evaluation and treatment after sustaining a self-inflicted laceration to his arm.

Online court dockets show Miller is facing one felony count of aggravated assault with fear of imminent serious bodily injury to designated individuals, one felony count of possession of a prohibited firearm, one felony count of terroristic threats and one misdemeanor count of simple assault.

Court dockets also show Miller is currently being held in the Blair County Prison and that he has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 14.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Rosehill Drive and E Pleasant Valley Boulevard in Altoona at this time due to an active police presence in the area.

While details are limited at this time, PA 511 shows that all lanes are closed in the area due to "police activity".

Emergency officials said that, while there is currently no threat to the public, people are being asked to remain indoors.
