The Meyersdale area celebrated their 77th annual Maple Festival, kicking off weekend festivities with a parade and more.
Officials say the maple festival brings together volunteers, local businesses, and community members each year. They say that people who visit the area for the occasion, which takes place over two weekends, can find a great number of activities to take part in.
Maddie Johnson, Vice President of the Maple Festival Board of Directors, says, “There are plenty of things here for everybody to do. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how young you are, or what your interests are. There’s something here for everybody.”
This year, officials say the festival featured dozens of food and craft vendors, as well as live music, horse drawn carriage rides, and tours of Maple Manor in festival park—the oldest home in Meyersdale. They also say they held a Sugar Camp where visitors could learn how maple syrup is made.
“We are very proud of our festival and very proud of our town here. Without the volunteers and the community members that are involved in the festival, this would not occur,” says Robin Deal, President of the Maple Festival Board of Directors.
Officials say despite the rainy weather, volunteers and visitors still arrived as usual. They say the festival has grown to involve hundreds of workers and thousands of annual visitors.
“They say how passionate they are about things, especially in the Manor. It’s awesome to see people come back. Even people who have come to tour the Manor in previous years come back faithfully every year because it’s just something they love and enjoy.”
Officials say they’re already planning for next year’s festival.
