Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — A massive gingerbread village just inside the Omni Bedford Springs Resort isn't meant for eating, just enjoying.
The resort's pastry chef was challenged to outdo the house he made last year, and he did just that with a Christmas wonderland.
The full display is 34 feet wide and 12 feet tall.
Forty-five students at the Bedford County Technical Center built the framework.
He and his staff then went to work adding the 6,800 bricks made from 240 pounds of gingerbread dough, 60 pounds of royal icing, 40 pounds of marshmallow, 360 chocolate bars, 100 York peppermint patties and 1,400 peppermints.
“For me, I really feel the utmost pleasure just watching their faces when they open the door, because our guests don’t expect that, and when they open the door, it’s a grand surprise for them. Just to see the smiles and expressions gives me utter joy,” said Harshal Naik, pastry chef.
Chef Harshal says he’s already thinking about what he can do next year to make the display bigger and better.
Anyone who wishes to stop in and see the gingerbread town is welcome to do so.
