JOHNSTOWN - A replica of a World War II fighter that was piloted by local ace, Lt. Col Boyd "Buzz" Wagner, was moved from a nearby hangar to the front of the main terminal Friday at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport.
Wagner is a native of Emeigh, Cambria County.
The replica plane, purchased through a fundraising campaign of more than two years, is a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, which Wagner flew in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps.
"He was actually flying this type of aircraft when he shot down five Japanese in the Philippines," said Doug Legenfelder, a board member of the airport authority and former Cambria County Commissioner.
"Here we got a local hero for the United States and we're going to be honoring his aircraft up here at the Johnstown airport."
